OPCI Limited (Open Predictor Clinical Intelligence), a healthcare startup based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has successfully raised £600,000 in seed funding. Founded by orthopaedic surgeons Justin Green and #MikeReed, OPCI aims to enhance decision-making processes for clinicians involved in elective surgeries.

Their innovative platform, Open Predictor, leverages machine learning algorithms trained on anonymized patient data to generate predictive risk scores for patients undergoing hip or knee replacement surgeries. This tool aids clinicians in making informed decisions, ultimately improving patient outcomes and reducing waiting times for elective surgeries.

With the new funding, OPCI plans to integrate Open Predictor into pre-operative assessment procedures at hospitals, starting with a pilot project in Southwest Wales in collaboration with Hywel Dda University Health Board and Swansea Bay University Health Board . This investment will support the continued development of the platform, ensuring it effectively supports clinicians, healthcare professionals, and patients.

OPCI’s mission to streamline the pathway from patient referral to surgery addresses the growing issue of prolonged waiting times for elective surgeries, making a significant impact on the healthcare system. This funding marks a crucial step towards realizing their vision of integrating advanced technology into clinical decision-making.
