Madhya Pradesh-based legaltech startup, RTIwala, has secured a funding from Pontaq VC, with key support from Bhopal based NGIS-STPI. The fresh investment is earmarked for expanding the team and enhancing the product portfolio. This funding milestone not only highlights the success of RTIwala but also exemplifies the immense potential of village-level startups in India, especially amidst challenging times, contributing to the Government of India’s Startup India Mission.
RTIwala, founded by Sumeet Mahendra and Kritika Srivastava, is focused on providing valuable information and records from governments to the general public and companies in a simple, fast, and cost-effective manner. Initially established as a blog, RTIwala shifted its business model to a service-based startup in January 2019, and later evolved into a product-based startup in the subsequent year.
Addressing the significant gap in the utilization of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, with only 5% of India’s population exercising their right, RTIwala aims to digitize and streamline the process of filing RTI applications and appeals. The startup also endeavors to create a comprehensive and easily searchable database of public records.
“We strongly believe in the power of information to drive positive change and empower our fellow citizens,” said Sumeet Mahendra, Founder and CEO of RTIwala, expressing the company’s commitment to its mission.
Kritika Mahendra, Co-Founder, and COO of RTIwala, shared her thoughts on the funding, stating, “Receiving a funding from Pontaq VC is a testament to the tireless efforts of our team and the transformational impact we aim to bring.”
Pontaq VC, renowned for its investments in technology startups across the UK, India, US, and Canada, has extended its support to RTIwala. This funding will enable RTIwala to scale its services and expand its outreach, making government information more accessible, faster, and affordable for citizens and organizations alike.
In the last financial year, RTIwala witnessed a remarkable achievement of tripling its revenue, a testament to the startup’s effectiveness and commitment to delivering outstanding results. The continuous progress highlights the credibility of RTIwala’s approach, further strengthened by the unwavering support of Padup Ventures and PIEDS, BITS Pilani.
